Novice - someone who's just started participating in this activity.

Beginner - someone who's had some experience, but has not yet established a basic comfort level or consistent level of practice.

Intermediate - someone who maintains a consistent level of practice and demonstrates all of the basic skills of that activity.

Advanced - someone who has been evaluated by performance, competition, or certification and demonstrates a high degree of skill.

Professional - someone who competes or performs in a given activity as a source of livelihood or as a career.
